what is this human d8 you speak of

Phylus was nervous, Nikkal could tell that much. She'd pulled up a long, dangling sleeve just enough to grip his hand in hers, and she casually swung them back and forth as she led him into the dense, blue forests of the Land of Stars and Storms.

He hovered closely, the sound of thunder in the distance obviously not helping his nerves any - and as they walked, she hummed a cheerful tune in an attempt to distract him from it. She didn't want him to be nervous; from her understanding, human dates were only supposed to be nerve-wracking in the beginning. Besides, she wasn't nervous, and she thought he was doing just fine!

"Where are we going...?" he asked quietly, interrupting her humming.

Nikkal turned to look at him over her shoulder, giving him a big smile. "Phyphy will see soon! C'mon, we hafta hop now," she instructed as they came to a narrow stream of faintly-glowing waters - Nikkal stepped over with practiced ease, though Phylus had a bit more difficult of a time. He hopped over the water, but had misjudged how narrow it really was; he'd overshot, and thus the extra momentum from the jump sent the two of them careening right into a tree.

Phylus' hands shot forward just in time to catch himself before he squashed Nikkal against the tree. "S-Sorry," he squeaked, his face flushing bright green as his companion peered up at him. She didn't seem bothered by the sudden closeness. Instead, she grinned again and stepped out from between him, offering her hand again.

"We're almost there," she chirped as he took her hand, and it was back to humming as they continued on. The blush failed to leave his face, though.

Eventually, they came to a small clearing. A large, glowing crystal sat in the middle, illuminating the immediate area with a soft pink glow. Around it were what seemed to be dozens of shimmering green flutterbeasts - they immediately encircled Nikkal as she stepped into the clearing. They had been waiting for her; they hadn't expected to see her until she lay bleeding on her quest bed, though they seemed happy to see her nonetheless.

She turned to Phylus, cupping her hands under a couple of the tiny creatures. "This is what Niknik wanted Phyphy to see," she said quietly as he stepped forward. She stretched her hands toward him, and he lifted his own to take the glowing critters. "'Cause they make her think of Phyphy's color!"

He glanced up as he felt something perch on one of his horns, and for once, he felt at peace and allowed himself to smile.
