"Chi-Rho...?"

Her voice was soft and weak, shaking as much as the small, slender hand reaching out to ghost over his rapidly darkening cheeks. Blank, white, backlit eyes bored down into her, not quite lacking comprehension but far, far from the gentle lavender gaze she was used to. Her palm made contact and burned at the sensation, something dark and Other radiating out from beneath his skin.

There was something of her dear friend left in this blackened shell, at least, because as soon as she winced he made as if to draw back. Chrysi refused to let him, though, shifting forward and tangling her fingers in his hair, bringing up her free arm to hook around his neck and draw him close. Panic was flooding her system, both from the physical pain and the terror at the thought of losing him, so she couldn't be blamed for her next course of action.

She kissed him.

It seared her mouth, left a taste of ash and ice and ichor behind, numbed her tongue and stole the warmth from the back of her throat. But she kept at it, desperate and determined, until she was forced to either pull back for air or pass out. She panted raggedly, but didn't loosen her hold on him.

"I'll do anything, Chi-Rho," she promised, tears leaking out as she pressed her face against his shoulder. "Just please, don't leave." He shuddered, and she might have been halucinating, but she thought that his cheeks had turned an entirely different shade of grey than the rest of him.
