MAGES
General fanon consensus is Mages are passive counterparts to Witches or active counterparts to Seers! I am personally leaning more towards the latter than the former, BUT LET'S TALK? Idk my bff homestuck classes.
Damn you Hussieeeeeeee.
too lazy to switch journals
(damn you Hussieeeeeeeeeeeee)

Also in regards to the Witch/Mage active/passive pairing, I can see it both because those are two 'magic' related classes that are opposite each other in terms of terminology- 'Witch' being female and 'Mage' being more male/gender neutral in terms of assignment.
tl;dr- I feel Mage is a passive class due to canon personalities/occurrences.
Pretend this is the right account
Degen also brought up on Plurk that the mages in canon are also associated with destruction in some manner, which is interesting! And opens up hilarious possibilities for mages as an offensive class, especially considering who our mages are whoops.

As far as the canon Mages go- Sollux is a doom player, so I understand his being associated with destruction, but Meulin is the Mage of Heart and I don't see her actively being related to anything destructive-- unless you mean the Kurloz thing, which frankly has nothing to do with her aspect and more her choice of company.

I'm leaning more towards Mages as Witches' passive counterpart now in any case 8|a Though I'm still stumped as to what Mages actually do hmmm
WITCHES
there's some speculation about the class here. personally i'm leaning toward the expansion and size manipulation of their aspect, but i am totes open to discussion!

That said, I'unno if I agree with expansion and size manipulation for Witches because that, by concept, seems like a Spacey Thing instead of a Witchy Thing since mass and physics and stuff. I'm not up-to-date on what the other classes are in-game headcanon'd as or whatever, but they seem to me like they just use their aspect to (strongly?) influence the world around them because that sounds like an active sort of thing maybe.
I mean, Feferi could have potentially done Lifey Things mainly to others considering GodTierFef healed WV but there wasn't a self-heal Lifey Thing like with Jane as the Maid of Life. Also, it seems like it might go along with Jade's stuff as well, since the only stuff she really seems to have been doing with her Spacey Thing was with the wall in Cascade. On the other hand, she also has First Guardian powers so I don't really know if she counts for much.
i seriously rambled out two paragraphs of words just so that i would contribute something more than that grinch thing oops
Re: WITCHES
So idk when I play Jade I always see it as "magically in tune with your aspect" in a way that can manipulate the environment around you; same when I play Damara.
HI THIS IS AARON
SYLPHS
anyway all we know about sylphs is that they are some sort of healer class. aranea didn't give us many details, but as a sylph of light she can help people to see, both metaphorically and literally. when combined with her aspect, it makes sense that a sylph of LIGHT would heal people to SEE, since you cannot see the light if you are blind.
i think from this we can infer that sylphs can heal along a theme determined by their aspect. this implies that sylphs are actually fairly limited in what they can heal for the most part since is has to fit in to the theme, but i think there is also some interpretation involved as sylphs can heal both literally and metaphorically. the only exception to this would probably be a sylph of life, which could probs heal just about anything due to being a healer class paired with a healer aspect.
also the question as to whether sylphs are passive or active has yet to be answered by canon, and frankly i think you can make a case for either, though passive feels more likely to me personally.
SEERS
and Aranea providing info dumps. Kankri didn't help.So Seers see things. They perceive the possible outcomes of the game, through the means of their aspect, and have the power to try to guide their party to a Good End.
BARDS
Thoughts?
