in which nikkal obtains ALL OF THE BIG BROS

[personal profile] starstorm 2012-10-18 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
It was required for all of Nikkal's designated "big brothers" to treat her to a piggyback ride, and Chi-Rho was no exception.

As she heaved herself up onto his back, she found herself wondering what it would be like. Donovan's piggyback rides were rough and bumpy like riding a hoofbeast, and Nikkal always had to hold on tightly, lest she fall off. Bharal's were always fast and bouncy - the way he bounded on his long legs reminded her of the rides her lusus used to give her, before she was a sprite. So how would Chi-Rho's be different?

She was very surprised - but not unpleasantly - when the ride he gave her ended up smooth and steady. He glided like he were the most graceful of tyrians and held on to her with the utmost care, and yet, Nikkal still clung to his neck in a way that she could feel the breeze on her face.

From then on, if anyone asked her who her favorite piggyback-giver was, she would have to say it was entirely dependent on her mood, and that there was no way she could pick a favorite. Which was completely true; if she were feeling a little too energetic then she'd ask Donovan, Bharal was good for those times when she missed having a regular lusus, and Chi-Rho's rides could easily lull her to sleep.

It was beginning to be a common theme with the boys she met in this game, she realized, that they didn't quite seem capable of taking hints when they were given to them.

A few hours into hanging around in her hive, listening to music and messing with both the alchemiter and the items given to her by her consorts- and the only thing he's done is blush and occasionally ask her to change a song. He flusters easily, and she's had to skip a lot of her favorites (humans have such interesting music) but she wonders if perhaps the more direct route wouldn't be simpler. She changes the song again at his request and pauses, fiddling with the volume and levels of her speakers and wondering if she shouldn't just turn it all off. He surprises her by pulling her hand away from the volume by the wrist, and wrapping his other arm around her waist, chin settling on her head.

"You know, asking is usually far simpler than this song and dance routine of yours." He laughs, amused and affectionate, and then pulls his chin from atop her head to settle on her shoulder, chuckling close to her ear. "Though I'll admit, it's cute that you can't really be too direct about it."

She huffs and almost crosses her arms- and instead reaches up to tweak his nose idly.

"Well if you knew what I was getting at, then you should have said something sooner."

"I'm sure I'll find a way to make it up to you."

This time she does cross her arms, though it's in a vain attempt to make him believe the blush on her face is irritation rather than anticipation.

"Yeah, well- you'd better."

Perrix knew what to expect. As soon as he was made aware of the humans he'd done some cursory scouting so as to not go in blind. Yet even after that, he still wasn't entirely prepared for actually meeting Chrysi in-person for the first time. Oh, certainly the cocky smirk on his face and the carefully collected bouquet (maidens love flowers) would make him look prepared on the outside... But for once in his life, the blueblood actually felt as if he wasn't in control. Years of deceptive sweetness came in handy, though - his was quite a poker face.

In contrast, the girl wasn't bothered at all. Perrix struck her as a bit odd, certainly, but then he was a troll and not a human. Not that that made him any less interesting! On the contrary, he was just as fascinating as the others, and had largely been nice. The considerable height difference between the two didn't even seem to bother Chrysi, who was all smiles as she bound up to the gray-skinned young man for a more proper greeting.

"Perrix, right..? It's a pleasure to meet you!" A lump formed in his throat. Oh no her voice is cute...

Never one to be deterred, however, Perrix dropped to one knee and produced his bouquet with a flourish, "Indeed! For you, milady..." Chrysanthemums, of course. The gesture was cheesy, but somewhat impressive considering that Alternia didn't have such a flower. He would've had to research what exactly the flower was and then find some on the remnants of the homes of the human players. Chrysi was sharp, and so the sheer work that must have gone into this otherwise simple gesture was not lost on her. "Perrix Seiyos, in your service."

"Well you're allowed to rise, Perrix!" she replied with a giggle that only served to deepen the pink flush in her face. "These are lovely, thank you." At her prompting he stood, again with a flourish.

"Yet mark'd I where the bolt of Cupid fell: It fell upon a little western flower..."

"...Before milk-white, now purple with love's wound, and maidens call it love-in-idleness. You don't intend to to slip me a love potion, now, do you?"

Perrix grinned again. "Hopefully I won't need to..."

She doesn't talk much when they first meet, and the first time he hears and sees her do so, she understands why. The modulated, robotic voice isn't awful, but it makes her uncomfortable to hear herself talk- not obviously, but he's good at noticing details like that when they count. He does his best to pretend he doesn't notice it, and he can tell she's relieved when she doesn't have to explain the reasons for it to him.

After she Godtiers, it's difficult for most to get her to stop talking- her voice isn't unpleasant, not in the slightest, but she rambles off whatever comes to mind at any given moment of silence.

It gets better when she gets back to working her voice up to sing. She tries not to do it when she'll be heard, or when she thinks someone will come sneaking up on her- it's a strange sense of pride she has, not thinking she's up to par with what she used to be. So when he finally comes across her practicing, she's trilling notes, almost birdlike, eyes closed and face tilted skyward. She's so focused that she doesn't notice him until she stops her trills and starts practicing a proper song, eyes half-opening in the middle of a breath. She promptly tumbles out of the tree she's in with a spectacular flail of her arms and a shrill curse, though she pops from the shrubbery at the base of the tree a moment later, apparently unharmed. Well- save for her ego, that is.

He smiles, awkwardly, not quite sure what to say as she simply stares at him, still halfway in the bush, expression sulky and embarrassed.

"I do hope you don't mind, I was just... well, I was nearby and I heard- ah..."

She's standing, plucking leaves from the short, wild mass of her hair and brushing dirt from her stockings- he forgets, sometimes, that she's the other one who has a fondness for thigh-highs- before straightening to cross her arms and purse her lips at him, pouting.

"Right- do you need help getting back to your branch? I was thinking I might stick around and listen a while longer, still. That's alright, isn't it?"

She raises an eyebrow at him, and makes a point to dig her claws into the tree enough to leave gouges as she climbs back up to her perch- but when she settles again, she starts singing immediately, apparently disregarding his presence entirely. He takes that as permission enough to stick around for a little while.

The view of her legs in those stockings from where he's standing honestly has very little part in influencing that decision.

Phylus was nervous, Nikkal could tell that much. She'd pulled up a long, dangling sleeve just enough to grip his hand in hers, and she casually swung them back and forth as she led him into the dense, blue forests of the Land of Stars and Storms.

He hovered closely, the sound of thunder in the distance obviously not helping his nerves any - and as they walked, she hummed a cheerful tune in an attempt to distract him from it. She didn't want him to be nervous; from her understanding, human dates were only supposed to be nerve-wracking in the beginning. Besides, she wasn't nervous, and she thought he was doing just fine!

"Where are we going...?" he asked quietly, interrupting her humming.

Nikkal turned to look at him over her shoulder, giving him a big smile. "Phyphy will see soon! C'mon, we hafta hop now," she instructed as they came to a narrow stream of faintly-glowing waters - Nikkal stepped over with practiced ease, though Phylus had a bit more difficult of a time. He hopped over the water, but had misjudged how narrow it really was; he'd overshot, and thus the extra momentum from the jump sent the two of them careening right into a tree.

Phylus' hands shot forward just in time to catch himself before he squashed Nikkal against the tree. "S-Sorry," he squeaked, his face flushing bright green as his companion peered up at him. She didn't seem bothered by the sudden closeness. Instead, she grinned again and stepped out from between him, offering her hand again.

"We're almost there," she chirped as he took her hand, and it was back to humming as they continued on. The blush failed to leave his face, though.

Eventually, they came to a small clearing. A large, glowing crystal sat in the middle, illuminating the immediate area with a soft pink glow. Around it were what seemed to be dozens of shimmering green flutterbeasts - they immediately encircled Nikkal as she stepped into the clearing. They had been waiting for her; they hadn't expected to see her until she lay bleeding on her quest bed, though they seemed happy to see her nonetheless.

She turned to Phylus, cupping her hands under a couple of the tiny creatures. "This is what Niknik wanted Phyphy to see," she said quietly as he stepped forward. She stretched her hands toward him, and he lifted his own to take the glowing critters. "'Cause they make her think of Phyphy's color!"

He glanced up as he felt something perch on one of his horns, and for once, he felt at peace and allowed himself to smile.

(Oh right I guess TW violence!)

This wasn't right. Perrix was the one who gamed the system, knew every shortcut, trick, optimal build, everything. And yet this bastard had somehow appeared, somehow clawed his way out of some kind of crack in the system, as if reality itself had glitched. A glitch. That's what this... Abomination was, there was no other way to explain it. Games have rules, reality has rules and they weren't to be broken. This wasn't right.

The troll tried to think back to where something went wrong that could have led to this, but he didn't have the time. It was rather difficult to think while hurtling through the air from a SHORYUKEN-tier uppercut. It was also pretty hard to think when colliding with a stone wall, especially when you can hear something (multiple somethings?) break on impact.

Only after slumping to the floor could Perrix fix his hazy, blue-tinted view on his aggressor again: himself. Well, not precisely himself. A bizarre mockery of himself - white-haired, somewhat scrawnier, and wearing a solid black godhoodie with a white @ sign for a symbol and his very presence seemed... Wrong. It came in periodic bursts, like the static-y distortion of an image on an old television, but over his entire three-dimensional body.

"†hèRé," it cooed, "n0w yºu ©4n't ®un @wÅy..." Perrix spit. Even the thing's voice sounded wrong. Sure enough, though, he - it - was right, his left femur was all but shattered, and he'd decided to go this one alone. He could kick himself if not for the broken leg - this sort of freak occurrence was exactly the thing he planned for them to avoid. But how could he plan for something that completely ignored the rules? How could he plan for himself?

A moment later and the thing twitched over - teleported, really. The doppelganger knelt down next to the original...
